Anyone visiting al-Dhahar area in Ibb or going to the wholesale market or the public transport station, would smell the foul odors from a distance, and feel the bites of mosquitoes - which are everywhere making the daily living miserable in the area. This created daily suffering for the people who were waiting for help to reduce this hardship.

Salim Abdo Salim, who is in his fifties, and a resident of al-Jarrah Village - District of Hais - has become homeless with his four children. His home and thirteen other homes in the area were swept away by torrent floods in 2016. Up till today, he and the other homeowners haven’t been able to rebuild their homes.

The District of Hat, in the Governorate of Maharah, has been facing severe drought and water scarcity. The climate in this area is semi-arid, but its inhabitants have been dependent on agriculture and camel breeding as their main sources of livelihood. The provision of water through the expansion of a water collection pond has had a positive impact for humans and animals in the area.

The residents of the village of Talibah, in the District of Hisoon in Khawlan, Governorate of Sana’a, have been suffering from lack of clean water and scarcity of water resources. The return of many families who used to live in urban areas, such as Sana’a and Amran exacerbated the problem - and demands for the already scarce water doubled.

Khilood Mohammed, 13, is a student in Martyr Taher al-Saifi School for girls in the capital city of Sana’a. She is experiencing two happy events in the new school year, which just started. The first, Khilood is transitioning from the elementary level to the preparatory level. But the important happy event is she is seeing her school in a new look that reflect new hope for a better future.

It has been 37 years since al-Zubairi School was built in the city of Amran. Since then, the school deteriorated into a deplorable state, waiting for someone to save it from the ruins and to lift it from its miserable state. The school caters to 1350 students in two shifts - morning and evening - with 400 students from displaced families.

Self efforts by Hajj Nasser Eyadah weren’t successful in the protection of his land - located in the lower part of al-Hajjer Valley, in the district of Melah, Lahj.  Water-flow from the dam comes at such a high speed that makes it impossible to contain, leaving a devastating impact on the land. Hajj Nasser has been compelled to abandon the land to its fate. Losses far exceed returns. Resources are limited and farmers, like Eyadah, are unable to buy retainers and gabon nets to protect their land.

Faisal Zayed is a resident of Aber-Bader village of the District of Tuban in the Governorate of Lahj, and a farmer. He expresses his happiness to see the school he studied in being rehabilitated, after it went through years of neglect leading people to shy away from motivating their children to attend classes regularly.
