The UNESCO Office in the Gulf state & Yemen stressed the importance of partnership with the PWP during the coming period in implementing the coming phase of the #cash_for_work project to improve livelihood opportunities for the youth of the historical cities in Yemen.
In light of a shortage of job opportunities and sources of income, improving the standard of living through providing a source of income is a priority held by the majority of Yemenis, particularly the displaced and poorest groups.
PWP has a organized a week-long training session on supervision, follow up, occupational health and safety, and monitoring for over 60 PWP staff members.
Tens of families in the historic city of Zabid now feel at ease after facing constant threats of displacement and potential death in their homes, which were on the verge of collapse. The homes were so dilapidated due to years of neglect and disrepair.
The residents of al-Salool area are suffering from lack of a sustainable water resource. A mountainous area, with sparse seasonal rainfall pattern, the residents suffer from constant draught, and people don’t benefit from the seasonal rainfalls.
Reclamation of Abandoned Land
Following the implementation of a project to reduce water loses under the Social Protection Project - ESPECRP, financed by the World Bank’s IDA in partnership with UNDP, PWP implemented a component that has led to increase irrigated areas.

The Public Works Project has completed the restoration of 15 home in the Old City of Sana’a under the cash for work program for youth in urban areas of Yemen.
