Stone Paving of Roads

In the paving and improvement sector, PWP has sought, with remarkable success, to achieve economic, environmental, and health objective - by stone-paving roads and urban neighborhoods.

Subprojects for paving densely populated areas, with residents and displaced people, have achieved economic benefits by helping to reduce cost of transport of goods, generate work for manual labor, and create a better environment and living spaces in neighborhoods and other population clusters. Health and environment wise, the stone-paving subprojects have led to the improvement of urban neighborhoods, making them attractive to live in, free from the spread of epidemics and stagnant rainwater and waste water that used to turn these neighborhoods into floating cesspools during the rainy season.

Indicators

Paving rural roads and urban quarters have interrelated economic, social and environmental health impacts that have immediate tangible effects. Beneficiaries have seen easy access to markets for their agricultural goods, and reduced cost of transport of goods and services. The paved roads have facilitated easy access to health facilities for critical cases, especially child deliveries.

The unpaved roads with difficult access had often led to the death of infants and mothers. In addition, paved roads and streets have created a safer and healthier environment free from diseases and epidemics.

By the end of December 2021, more than 260 km of urban and rural roads had been improved through the implementation of more than 400 projects, benefiting approximately 1.4 million beneficiaries and the creation of 800,000 working days.
