Organized by the Public Works Project: Safety and Occupation Health in a Training Session Held in Sana’a, Amran and al-Jawf.

The Public Works Project, PWP, inaugurated last week a two-day training session on safety and occupational health in Sana’a. The Training was held under the motto “Safety measure are vital: everyone must observe”. More than 60 contractors and consultant engineers from all over the Republic attended the training.

In the opening session, the director of PWP’s third district, Eng. Abdul-Mena’m Mutaher made a presentation on the concepts, objectives, requirements and responsibilities for safety and occupational health that must be observed during implementation of field sub-projects.

He confirmed that safety and occupational health aim at protecting workers, tools, machinery, equipment, material and the environment by enhancing the work environment and compliance with special systems and procedures that lead to the prevention of accidents, injuries and disease.

For his part, the director of the Tenders Department in PWP, Eng. Jameel Hizam stressed the need for contractors to pay attention to all aspects of safety and occupational health when submitting their bids for sub-projects.

Eng. Hizam cautioned that the PWP Management Unit will not take things lightly if a contractor or a consultant engineer is not in compliance with safety and occupational health measures - the safety and life of a worker is top priority.

The Water and Environment Officer, Eng. Abdul-Wali al-Shami made a presentation on the responsibilities of contractors in the area of safety and occupational health, in particular: compliance with safety and occupational health laws and standards, creation of a risk-free environment to prevent accidents and deaths of workers, and organization of the project site to ensure easy access for workers and vehicles - and other responsibilities expected of the contractors.

Meanwhile, the trainer, Dr. Mohamed al-Mughalis presented detailed presentation on the concepts, objectives and responsibilities in safety and occupational health, and protective measures, such as prevention, protection, and mitigation of risk.

Two days ago, the training session on health and occupational safety measures was launched at the headquarter of the sub-district Office of the PWP for Amran and al-Jawf. More than 60 contractors and consultant engineers attended the training.

During the training session, participants were introduced to the concepts and conditions for health and occupational safety requirements and the need for compliance and application in the field during project implementation.

The director of the PWP’s sub-district office for Amran and al-Jawf stressed the importance of compliance by the contractors and the engineers in the application of health and occupational safety practices.

He pointed out that the Project Management Unit of PWP views the implementation of health and occupational safety measures as important as compliance to quality and the specifications for projects during implementation.
