An increase of 55 additional YECRP subprojects, Implementation Of 215 Subprojects At A Cost Of $11.5 Million

The pwp achievements in the yemen emergency crises response project, yecrp have exceeded plans of the parent project. During the period from august,2016 – june,2017, the pwp implemented 215 subprojects in rainwater harvesting, stone pavements and improvements, agriculture, and sanitation and water supply at a cost of $11.5 Million. This is an increase of 55 subprojects more than planned at a cost of $ 5.4 Million.

The pwp had planned to implement 160 subprojects under the original funding.

The increase is attributed to lower costs of implementations. The pwp now estimates that a subproject in the areas mentioned above costs around $55,000 down from earlier estimates, which put the cost at between $80,000 – $100,00 for each subproject. Furthermore, the pwp has found that a number of factors have contributed to this decrease, including increased competition between local contractors due to the stagnancy in the constructions sector  that has pushed contractors to submit lower bids for the same projects. The difference in exchange rate of the yemeni riyal against the us dollar has also been a contributing factor, since most of the inputs in these subprojects are available locally, including labor, which have not seen a significant increase in prices and wages.

Indicators

No. Of cubic meters implemented so far is 68,665 cu.M,while for the 30 completed sub-projects is 18,745 cu.M. Water harvesting subprojects are usually communities’ highest priority in most of the rural remote area and so the targets are expected to be exceeded.
Length of roads improved for all sub-projects is 44.24 Km,while for the 42 completed sub-projects is 24.0 Km.
363 Classrooms have been rehabilitated so far out of which 314 classrooms are for completed school. 158 Classrooms will be rehabilitated more than the target of 205,yet within the same budget allocations for the intervention. This is mainly due to selection of larger schools in urban centers, while at the same time average construction costs have significantly dropped during this period.
