Education Sector

PWP has made significant contributions to the education sector, covering all regions of Yemen in rural and urban areas- achieving a positive impact on the advancement of the education sector.

During the current period, interventions include projects for the rehabilitation of schools - the majority of which have been decommissioned as they had been used as shelters, or due to neglect and lack of maintenance. The rehabilitation of these schools has revived the educational sector in many areas of Yemen.

PWP’s interventions to rehabilitate tens of schools in all parts of the country restored hopes for thousands of students at different educational levels, encouraged students to continue their education and to regularly attend their classes. In implementing these subprojects, PWP succeeded in ensuring continuity of the educational process and enabled schools to perform their educational mission.

Indicator

Currently, PWP’s interventions in the education sector are confined to rehabilitation and restoration of existing schools. These interventions created an attractive educational environment for students of both genders, and increased enrollment rates when compared to the situation prior to PWP’s interventions.

As of the end of December 2021, 2,885 classrooms had been rehabilitated through the rehabilitation of 363 schools, which have benefitted nearly 240,000 students and provided 296,000 work days.

Opinions of the Beneficiaries

“I go to school every morning with full vitality and vigor; my ambitions grow in my mind and that tells me that tomorrow they will come true,” says Maha Saleh, a student from the Governorate of Lahj.”My return to school, after a long interruption, has given me back life and hope for a better future”, she says.

The same sentiments are echoed by Fatima, from the Governorate of Hajja, who’s overwhelmed with happiness as she listens to her teacher presenting the lesson of the day.
